MYA ‘s Wirral Golf Day Follows the Success of Royal Liverpool Showpiece

It was with great trepidation that the participants viewed the weather forecast for the first Merseyside Youth Association (MYA) Golf Day of this millennium.

The Indian summer that we had enjoyed had broken on the Monday and it was altogether likely that a deluge would descend upon Caldy Golf Club on Thursday 9thOctober to spoil this event.

Whilst the 70 golfers in the 18 teams that were participating arrived early at the course, they found an unwelcome amount of dampness in the air, but by the time the first ball was struck, the rain had cleared, leaving everyone to concentrate on the golf rather than keeping dry!

This was the first time that the Mason Owen group of companies had sponsored a major event like this on behalf of MYA and we were amazed with the professionalism and dedication of the MYA team and organising committee in the way they both promoted the event and managed the hospitality of the teams on the day.

The competition itself was intense and the enjoyment of the golfers on the course was extended into the gala dinner in the evening, which itself was a tremendous success in raising much needed funds for MYA. Guests were royally entertained by the MYA choir and an MYA youth band called Haze, who brought the evening to a fitting close with stunning performances.

The hospitality of Caldy Golf Club was second to none, and MYA Chief Executive Gill Bainbridge commented that “it was a fantastic day and the support we had from the teams and sponsors was incredible. The feedback has been great, so we are looking to make this an annual event on our fundraising calendar.”

MYA work with young people between the ages of 7 to 25 to inspire them to reach their full potential and also aim to create positive and lasting changes to their lives.

Mason Owen Financial Services has chosen MYA as one of its nominated local charities and has been pleased to help support the vast range of engagement projects that they undertake covering sports, disability, youth work, health, arts, social inclusion and employability training. MOFS was only too pleased to have our company and group of companies associated with such a well organised and enjoyable event and hopefully next year our team may be able to get a little bit closer to the prizes!
